Scholarship & Member Recognition Program

The SWANA Kentucky Bluegrass Chapter Scholarship & Member Recognition Program is dedicated to supporting the next generation of industry professionals while recognizing the leaders who are making a difference today.

Through this program, we invest in education, workforce development, and professional excellence across Kentuckyโ€™s solid waste and recycling community.


Program Opportunities

๐ŸŽ“ Academic Scholarship

Supports students pursuing higher education in fields related to environmental science, engineering, waste management, or public administration.

  • Open to Kentucky high school seniors and college students
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0 preferred
  • Requires essay, transcript, and letter of recommendation
  • Award: $1,000โ€“$2,000

๐Ÿš› CDL Scholarship

Helps individuals enter the waste and recycling workforce by obtaining a Commercial Driverโ€™s License.

  • Open to Kentucky residents age 18+
  • Must be enrolled in or accepted to a certified CDL program
  • Requires career statement and recommendation letter
  • Award: Up to $2,000

๐Ÿ”ง Mechanics/Technician Scholarship

Supports students pursuing careers in diesel mechanics, equipment repair, and maintenance.

  • Open to vocational or technical program students
  • Requires short essay and background/resume
  • Award: $1,500

๐Ÿ† Member of the Year Recognition

Honors a SWANA Kentucky Bluegrass Chapter member who demonstrates outstanding leadership, service, and impact in the industry.

  • Must be an active member in good standing
  • Nominations accepted from peers or self-submissions
  • Includes recognition plaque, charitable donation, and event registration
